Albany

Albany is the 11th largest city in Oregon and is located in Linn County. Albany was founded in 1848 and is a vibrant community for young families. It holds not just parks and trails but also many cultural events. Recently, the city has been investing in changing its image by investing heavily into revitalizing its downtown area.

This 503 area code city’s economy is run mostly by a manufacturing and farming community. Albany is often times considered the rare metals capital of the world because of its large production of zirconium, hafnium, and titanium. This 503 area code city also calls itself the grass seed capital of the world, because of its major exportation of grass seeds. Other crops that are produced in Albany are beans, mint, strawberries, corn, and hazelnuts.

Due to the large manufacturing business in Albany it was also at the center of a fierce corporate battle. Albany preserves over 30 sites within its city limits as parks and trails. There was a long battle over one of piece of land between the city and the Wah Chang Corporation. Both sides of the aisle hired several lawyers to represent their best interests in court. The case was finally settled in favor of Albany city which allowed it to preserve areas of land that the Wah Chang Corporation originally wanted control over.
